Celebrations as Lisburn lady Linda turns a century

A Pond Park Road lady who was 100 on Tuesday, keeps herself young by reading newspapers every day and is an avid snooker and tennis fan.

Linda Edens, who was originally from England, was born just before the First World War and was later to serve with the Wrens during the Second World War.

She was born in Oswestry, a small market town in England on July 15, 1914 one of five children.

Her father owned a ‘Guns and Tackle’ shop and Linda often recalls fondly the pet fox she owned whilst growing up near the Welsh border.

During World War 2, she served with the Wrens and was posted to Northern Ireland which is where she met her husband, the late James Edens.

James and Linda were married for 66 years until James’ passing in 2011.

Linda has two children, one grandson and two great grand children all of whom are in regular contact 
with her.
