Charged over crime spree

TWO men have appeared in court after a spree of burglaries and armed robberies throughout the borough.

Three men, aged 17, 19 and 42 were arrested last Thursday in connection with five separate incidents over a three day period including one armed robbery during which a Clonmeen man had a knife held to his throat.

The incidents include a burglary at an off-licence in the Killycomain area of Portadown on Monday, September 6 where some alcohol and other items were stolen as well as an armed robbery at commercial premises in the Corcrain area, where a sum of cash was stolen.

On Tuesday, September 7, another armed robbery occurred in the Drumgor area where again a sum of cash was taken.

On Wednesday, September 8, a man was assaulted when thieves broke into his home in the Clonmeen area of Craigavon.

One of the intruders held a knife to his throat, before stealing a sum of money and stealing the householder's car.

Also on the same day, three men entered an entertainment complex in the Lurgan area, went behind the counter and rummaged through the tills.

The 17 and 19-year-old appeared in Craigavon Magistrate's Court last Friday charged with a number of burglary offences.

A woman aged 51 was also charged with assisting offenders and handling stolen goods.

The 42-year-old man who had been arrested was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
