Child killer from Tyrone charged with wounding man in prison

The 35-year-old who is currently serving a minimum of 25 years behind bars for the murder of 15 month old toddler Millie Martin, was not at Lisburn Magistrates Court where he was charged with wounding a man called Dennis Lancaster on 6 June last year although it is not clear if his alleged victim is a fellow inmate or prison warder.

McCarney, originally from Trillick, County Tyrone but whose address was given as c/o HMP Maghaberry Prison, was due to have his case sent to the Crown Court for trial but the Preliminary Enquiry was adjourned until later this month at which stage the killer will appear in court.

McCarney was ordered to serve a minimum 25 years of a life sentence imposed for killing the toddler.

McCarney had always protested his innocence, claiming he was sickened and saddened by Millie’s death but last May, his appeal against the convictions were dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
