Classic comedy, local talent and the ‘Wee man from Strabane’

Hot on the heels of appearances by “Catchphrase” comedian Roy Walker, on Saturday, September 22 and from London Classic Theatre’s production of The Importance of Being Earnest on Tuesday and Wednesday, September, 25-26 there are two major shows with a distinctly home-grown flavour.

On Friday, September 28, at 8pm, local songstress and personality Margaret Ferris will be performing with a range of guests in an evening of Music, Dance and Variety.

Following her appearance on the All Ireland Talent Show on RTE and the subsequent release of her album ‘Reach for a Star’ Maggie has been singing at concerts and events all over Ireland enchanting audiences with her beautiful voice and musical melodies.

Her show is a mix of song and dance and compered by locally renowned master of ceremonies Derek Ewing, MBE.

Maggie’s special guests include her sister Ann who will be singing with her son and daughter, singer and pianist Edwin Brown, Lesley Magee with her harp, The Dominic Graham School of Irish Dancers, classical and Spanish guitarist Sean Woods who will be joined by singer/songwriter Laurence Hackett, The Barazina Youth Choir under the direction of Denise Rosborough and ‘Rythm and Shoes’ dance duo Gerald McQuilken and Brenda Tosh.

The audience will be treated to a superb evening of music including Pop, Modern, Classical, Sacred and Musical Theatre. A donation from the proceeds of this event will be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Rounding up that same week, on Saturday, September 29 at 8pm, Hugo Duncan will be returning to Riverside with his backing band and a range of fellow artistes for an evening of comedy and country and western favourites.

Radio Ulster’s ‘Wee man From Strabane’ brings his country jamboree to the Riverside for a night of great country music. And a host of other country stars including - Box Car Brian ‘Scania 143’.

Then there’s the yodelling gentleman of country Kenny Archer singing classic old time hits. And also Ann Breen, star of ‘Pal of My Cradle Days’ and the velvet voice of Frankie McBride singing his hits including ‘Five Little Fingers’ and ‘Burning Bridges’. So do try and join Hugo for a classic night of country in your local theatre.
