Clean-up plans for Ballykeel One are in the pipeline

ALDERMAN Martin Clarke has welcomed plans for a clean-up of the Ballykeel I estate.

The Ballymena South representative met with Ballykeel Together Development Association and representatives from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and Ballymena Borough Council’s Environmental Health department as part of the Department of Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Programme.

The meeting took the form of a ‘walkabout’ around the estate, from which areas for potential improvement were identified, including:

* overgrown grass areas where wild flowers could be planted

* back paths between houses which could be cleaned up

* removal of graffiti

* painting of rows of garage doors

* the possibility of a community garden

The initiative will be subject to securing the appropriate funding and plans are already in place for a similar venture within the Ballykeel II estate in the coming week.
