Coastguard airlift injured cyclist

A 27-year-old woman was airlifted by a Coastguard helicopter from Rathlin Island on Saturday afternoon following a cycling accident.

The casualty is believed to have fallen from her bicycle and sustained a head injury. Belfast Coastguard co-ordinated the rescue, having received an emergency call from the island’s nurse.

Coastguards from Rathlin Island prepared a landing site for the Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter from Sligo. The injured woman was flown directly to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine where Coastguards and paramedics were waiting to receive her.
