Coleraine Inst receives big cheque from its ‘Friends’

COLERAINE Inst Friends Association (CIFA) presented the school with a cheque for £14,500 this week.

The impressive sum had been raised by the voluntary committee through a number of fundraising activities held in school and the wider community.

Ann Moore, Chairperson of CIFA, said: “This money has been raised over the last four years and I would like to thank all the parents, volunteers and teachers at the school who have served on our committees and helped out at events during that time.

“It is CIFA’s role to support the work of the school and I am delighted that this money will be used across many departments and should benefit virtually every boy at Coleraine Inst.

“The money was raised through school discos, quizzes in Coleraine Rugby Club, barbecues and many other events in the community and I would like to thank everyone who contributed to those in any way.”

Inst principal, Dr David Carruthers, was on hand along with some of the boys to receive the cheque. He added, “In the current economic climate it is very difficult to raise extra funds so we are particularly thrilled to have this large sum of money.

“The funds have already been earmarked for a number of initiatives within the school. Some of the ways it will be spent include buying laptops for use in the school library; new cutting edge software for the technology department; and materials for the music and drama departments.”

“CIFA was established in 2006 to promote, assist and encourage the school and its activities in any way possible.

“If anyone would like more information on the Association or would like to help with future events, please contact Diane in the office at Coleraine Inst.”
