Cookstown motorist banned for 14 days

A teenage motorist was banned from driving for 14 days at Magherafelt Magistrates Court.

Ciaran Hurl (19), farm worker, of Ardean Close, Cookstown, was fined a total of £225 for having no insurance and a defective tyre.

The court was told the offences came to light after the police stopped the defendant driving a Corsa car at Church Street, Magherafelt, at 12.20am on December 12 last year.

A prosecuting lawyer said police noticed the wiring of one of tyre was exposed on the interior circumference.

He said the defendant was asked for his insurance and licence and told police he would produce them at Dungannon police station, but failed to do so.

A defence solicitor said Hurl now had insurance for the car and explained a missed direct debit payment had given rise to the insurance offence.
