Council extends participation in youth employment scheme

NEWTOWNABBEY Council has agreed to participate in the Young Persons Employment Initiative (YPEI) for a further year, up to March 31, 2015.

The local authority had committed itself to the programme for three years, up until March 2014. But following the success of the initiative, the council has decided to extend its involvement in the YPEI for a further 12 months.

The programme helps participants aged between 18 to 24 and who have been unemployed for at least one year to gain work experience across a number of council departments.

Members of the Policy and Governance Committee, who approved the extension of the programme, were informed that there is no financial cost to the council.
