Gavin Booth (22), of Broagh Village, Castledawson, faces charges of assaulting the officer and resisting him on June 10, 2018.

District Judge Oonagh Mullan adjourned the case at Magherafelt Magistrates Court last Wednesday until April 1 for a pre-sentence report.

Ms Mullan said Booth had a relevant matter for assault on the police in September 2017.

She remarked that assault and resisting police seems to be a trend with the defendant and the report may be beneficial.

Prosecution counsel said police enquiries into a vehicle led officers to the home of the defendant.

He said on arrival they noticed the vehicle parked at the side of the address and on knocking the door they spoke to the defendant’s mother who told them he was asleep.

When Booth appeared at the door he became aggressive towards police and was arrested.

The lawyer said Booth resisted and had to be carried to the waiting police vehicle during which he kicked one of the officers.

Counsel added that during a subsequent interview with police he denied involvement in the motoring matter.

Judge Mullan warned Booth to fully co-operate with the Probation Service and to ensure he kept all appointments.
