Anger as man receives ‘serious injuries’ in stabbing

An ‘appalling’ knife attack which left a young man with serious injuries, could have ended as a fatality says Sinn Fein.

The Friday night attack in Lurgan left a young man with stab wounds to his upper body after he was robbed.

The man, in his 20s, was found in Killough Gardens at around 11.45pm.

His mobile phone and rucksack had been stolen.

Police said the man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Dave Stewart said: “Police received a report at around 11.45pm that a man had been located in the vicinity of Killough Gardens and had sustained stab wounds to his upper body.

“Police and NIAS attended the scene and the man, aged in his twenties, was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.

“It was reported to police that during the incident the man’s mobile phone and a rucksack were taken.

“Enquiries are continuing, and we are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area, in particular in the Old Portadown Road/Drumlin Drive areas and witnessed this incident to contact our detectives.

“We are also appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity, or who has information which could assist our investigation to get in touch on 101, and quote reference 2124 of 04/12/20.”

“The people of Taghnevan do not need people wielding knives in the estate and creating fear in tbe community,

“Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious in the Drumlin Drive/Killough Gardens area should call 101 and tell the PSNI.”
