Bike left on railway track say police

POLICE in Coleraine have issued a warning to the public following an incident in which a bicycle was left on the railway line at University Halt.

A train collided with the bicycle at Cromore Road at 3pm on Sunday, July 24 but fortunately there were no injuries to passengers or damage to the train.

Police received a report that children were seen leaving the bicycle on the track.

A police spokesperson said: “We would remind the public of the dangers associated with leaving debris on a railway track - the potential for damage to the train or injury to those on board is all too obvious.

“We would also ask that parents explain to their children the real dangers associated with this type of activity before a tragedy occurs”.
