Lost licence

Taking a family vehicle while her own car was in for repairs led to a 19-year-old woman getting penalty points last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

And because she is still classed as a new driver her licence will be revoked and she will have to sit her test again.

Claire Campbell, Ballynamoney Road, Lurgan, was fined £200, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given six points for driving without insurance on March 26 this year.

She was stopped while driving at Drumellan Gardens. Later she called at Lurgan police station and said she believed she was covered to drive using third party insurance but this was not the case.

A solicitor representing the defendant explained that her own car was in for repairs and she used a car belonging to a family member.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said that as she was a new driver the inevitable consequence was that her licence would be revoked.
