In a short period of time after he had been banned from the roads, a 23 year old man was caught driving while disqualified on three occasions.

He was told last Friday at Craigavon Magistrate’s Court that he should realise ‘how close he had come to going to prison’. Wayne Matchett, Union Street, Portadown, also had an address at Glenholme Park, Lurgan, when some of the offences were committed.

Matchett admitted driving while disqualified on September 27 and not having insurance. He also pleaded guilty to driving while banned on October 3. As well, the defendant entered pleas for driving while disqualified and not having insurance on October 6.

The court heard that on all three occasions inquiries revealed Matchett had been banned from driving. The lawyer handed in a testimonial from Matchett’s employers. He was going through a four year apprenticeship and was well thought of.

Judge King banned the defendant from driving for two years and imposed a combination order of 12 months probation and 100 hours community service.
