Police probe burglaries in Mourneview

Two homes in the McCormack Gardens area and one in the Princeton Avenue area were broken into as well as a home in Russell Drive.

On Monday, 16 December, two homes in the McCormack Gardens area and one in Princeton Avenue were broken into. The McCormack Gardens burglaries were reported at 6.30pm and 6.40pm and the Princeton Avenue burglary was reported at 12.17am on Tuesday, 17 December.

An ipad and jewellery were taken in these burglaries.

On Thursday, 19 December, the occupant of a home in Russell Drive returned home around 7pm and disturbed two male intruders who made off through the front door. The males were in their early 20s and had scarves over their faces and were wearing tracksuits. One was of stocky build and one was of slim build.

Police have conducted house to house enquiries and are following up forensic opportunities. Officers have also distributed leaflets with crime prevention advice in the local area.

Inspector Ken Annett, Lurgan Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Burglary across Craigavon has dropped by more than 11 per cent this year however we are not complacent. We work hard to raise awareness of crime prevention measures and to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity. Officers are patrolling the Mourneview area on a daily basis and will continue with these over the coming days.

“There is no substitue for information which allows us to respond to crime at the earliest opportunity and I would ask the public to remain vigilant and report anything in your local area which looks untoward or out of place. We can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.”
