A woman in her 70s was cut out of a vehicle involved in a multi-vehicle crash near Portadown by firefighters.

The woman was taken to hospital via ambulance as was a man in his 70s who self rescued from the same vehicle.

In another vehicle a second woman in her 30s self rescued and was taken to hospital by a family member.

A female pedestrian in her 60s was also assessed by ambulance at the scene and was taken to hospital by a family member.

The NI Fire and Rescue Service said: They were called at Noon on Sunday May 8 to the Markethill Road, Portadown.

One applicance from Portadown and another from Lurgan attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “Firefighters attended a three vehicle road traffic collision. A woman in her 70’s was rescued from a vehicle it is roof by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment. A man in his 70 self-rescued from the same vehicle. Both were taken to hospital by ambulance.

“In the second vehicle a woman in her 30’s self-rescued and was taken to hospitably a family member. In the third vehicle all passengers were out of the vehicle on arrival of firefighters. A female pedestrian in her 60’s was assessed by Ambulance at the scene and was taken to hospital by a family member.

“The incident was dealt with at 12.59pm.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police attended the scene of a four vehicle road traffic collision on the Markethill Road, Portadown on Sunday, 8th May around 12pm.

“Colleagues from NI Fire and Rescue Service and NI Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

“Two people were taken to hospital by ambulance with another person taken to hospital by family members.

“A man was cautioned at the scene for careless driving.”

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 11.59 on Sunday, 08 May 2022 following reports of an incident in the Markethill Road area, Portadown.

She said NIAS despatched three Emergency Crews and one Officer to the scene. “Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, two patients were taken to the Craigavon Area Hospital by Ambulance.”
