Council are directed under legislation to hold such a meeting in June each year but at their January meeting on Monday night members decided not to hold the agm for 2016-17 on Tuesday evening, June 28.

That was the date recommended by Chief Executive Anne Donaghy for “primarily administrative” reasons.

Cllr Declan O’Loan said he was “surprised” at the recommended date as the agm was traditionally held at the start of June and suggested it be held on Wednesday, June 1.

Councillors went on to vote against the proposal of Cr May Beattie, seconded by Cr Beth Adger, to support the recommended date of June 28 and agreed an alternative date would be discussed at the next monthly meeting.
