A date has been set for the opening of the Omniplex cinema in Craigavon and the recruitment drive is underway for the new complex.

The cinema will open on Wednesday, March 25 and Omniplex are accepting applications for the position of cinema manager.

The new leisure complex at Highfield Heights will include an eight-screen cinema with a ‘MAXX’ giant screen, four restaurant units and 415 car parking spaces.

The MAXX cinema in Craigavon will be the third of its kind in Omniplex cinemas in Ireland with Newry and Rathmines boasting the other two.

Those applying for the position of cinema manager can do so via

In terms of the applicant, Omniplex say personal qualities such as good problem solving, organisational, interpersonal and verbal communication skills are important.

All candidates must be confident, commercially aware and capable of forming good relationships with a wide range of people. Retail management experience is required with graduates of business studies, management, travel/tourism or recreation/leisure studies preferred but not essential.

Work began on the complex in July of last year at the former Irish Road Motors site.

The development has moved quickly through the planning process since the Dublin-based firm Omniplex took over ownership of the land from Portadown firm Turkingtons who had originally owned and applied for planning permission for a cinema.

Omniplex is the largest cinema chain in the north, with other outlets including Armagh, Lisburn and Newry.
