Donnelly Group staff in a spin for Special Olympics

Northern Ireland’s largest independent new and used vehicle retailer, Donnelly Group, has announced it is to hold a charity bicycle ‘Spin-athon’ to raise vital funds for Special Olympics Ulster.

Employees at the Group’s Dungannon site on Moy Road have upped the stakes and will be keeping the wheels on three bicycles spinning throughout the day from half 8 until 7pm on Tuesday 8th April. .

Bikes will also be installed at the Group’s other six sites where more members of the Donnelly team will be tasked with keeping the wheels spinning.

Roisin Donnelly, Group Marketing Director, said:“Special Olympics Ulster is our chosen charity and I am delighted that members of the team from all of our sites will be joining in to help us raise money that will allow the charity to continue their great work.

“Not only does the organisation allow people with intellectual disabilities to experience the physical benefits of sports, it also provides opportunities to meet new people, and most importantly, to have fun and enjoy life.

“The charity does so much to change the lives of those involved and we want to urge everyone to call into our Dungannon showroom on Tuesday to encourage our employees to keep peddling and donate to such a worthy cause.

“I myself will be taking part and am really looking forward to sharing the experience with colleagues and customers, who I’m hoping will be in to cheer us on and join the fun!”

The ‘Spin-athon’ is just one event that the Group will be taking part in to raise funds for the charity.

Roisin continued: “Last week we held a cake sale which, needless to say, was very popular with staff and customers alike!

“For now all our efforts will be going into the ‘Spin-athon’ but members of the team will also be packing bags in Tesco Dungannon on Friday providing members of the public with another opportunity to donate to the Special Olympics Ulster.”

Shaun Cassidy, regional director of Special Olympics Ulster, said: “Special Olympics Ulster currently supports over 2,000 athletes in Ulster, with year-round activities in 91 clubs across the region.

“ We currently offer quality coaching and competition development in 14 sports including athletics, badminton, equestrian and gymnastics.

“We have been working closely with the Donnelly Group and are very grateful to Roisin and the team in Dungannon for all their efforts. The vital fund raised will allow us to continue to develop the Special Olympics programme across Ulster

“As an organisation we really encourage ‘team spirit’ and it’s great that Donnelly Group employees from all of their Northern Ireland showrooms have embraced this team spirit and have become involved to support us.

To donate, please call in to the Donnelly Moy Road site, Dungannon, on Tuesday 8th between 8:30am and 7pm.

Funds raised at the Donnelly Group’s ‘Spin-athon’ will go towards Special Olympics Ulster’s Annual Collection Day which will be taking place on Friday April 11th Special Olympic athletes will be at collection points across Northern Ireland throughout the day to raise funds which will go towards supporting the charity’s work in Ulster.
