On the tot up points system a 45-year-old man was banned from driving for six months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Jose Rodrigues, Obins Street, Portadown, was fined £200, with a £15 offender’s levy, for driving without insurance on March 1 last year.

He was also given six points and with six points already on his licence he was automatically banned for six months on the tot up system.

Police on mobile patrol in the Craigavon area checked a car and found that it did not have any insurance.

They pulled it in on the Brownlow Road and Rodrigues said he was insured but police discovered the policy had been cancelled in February.

A barrister representing the defendant said it was his second offence in a short period of time and there was an inevitable conclusion.

She added that he had got rid of the car and was no longer driving.
