A woman who drove at over 100mph on the motorway was told she could ‘count herself lucky’ she did not lose her licence.
Stephanie Frances Anderson (25), Clare Road, Gilford, pleaded guilty last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court to an excess speed offence. She was fined £300 and given six penalty points.
The court heard that at on April 26 this year at 11.55pm she was detected travelling at 101mph on the M1 near Lurgan. The weather conditions were fine and traffic was light.
A solicitor for the defendant said she had been heading home to Waringstown and there were works at the Moira roundabout so she had to go to Lurgan. He added that her licence was essential for her job.
District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said that 101mph was two high and asked if the defendant had any advanced driving training. The solicitor said she hadn’t but she had been driving since she was 17, had no previous convictions and had no points on her licence.
Imposing points Judge Kelly said Anderson ‘should count herself lucky’ she was keeping her licence.
