Dublin to have paid £22m by March

DUBLIN is expected to have contributed £22m to the A5 Londonderry to Aughnacloy roads project by the end of this financial year whilst contributions of £10m, £250m and £118m are expected over the years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 respectively.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy outlined the expected contribution from the cash-strapped Irish Government in response to an Assembly Question.

This time last year the Irish Government had contributed just £7.957 million (2 per cent of the total promised) but has since added a further £11m.

According to Mr Kennedy another £3m is expected by the end of March.

He told UUP MLA Trevor Buchanan: “As the Member will be aware, the Irish Government has committed £400 million towards the provision of dual carriageways on the A5 Western Transport Corridor and the A8 Belfast – Larne route.

“For practical reasons, payments from the Irish Government will be made against milestones identified on the A5, which have been agreed by the North South Ministerial Council.”
