East Antrim ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ raise £4,000 for charity

One hundred local ladies adorned in their finest attire were welcomed with a Champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous five-course lunch.

Guests enjoyed anecdotes from guest speaker Jim McDowell, Northern Ireland editor of the Sunday World, who spoke about his early life playing rugby and boxing, how he started his career in journalism, and the unusual news stories it has led him to over the years.

Shirley Sinclair, member of East Antrim Branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI, said: “We are truly delighted with the support that Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI has received from the local community in Whitehead, Islandmagee and surrounding areas.

“The annual ‘Ladies’ Lunch’ is a highlight in the social calendar for so many of our guests. The ‘Ladies Lunch’ event provides a fantastic and elegant day out in a beautiful setting while supporting a very worthy cause.”

The event, now in its tenth year, raised £4,000 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI, the only charity in Northern Ireland solely dedicated to fighting blood cancers. The charity has supported research to help find the cause and cure of leukaemia and other blood cancers for the last 50 years.
