East Antrim MLA urges: ‘Apply for Somme grant’

With only a year until the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, Sammy Wilson, MP MLA, calls on East Antrim communities to apply for new £4m Heritage Lottery Fund money to explore the impact of the war both in their local area and the world as a whole.

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced that it is making available new National Lottery money to help communities across the UK mark the centenary of the First World War and Mr Wilson is urging communities from the local area to apply.

The DUP representative believes that the funding is very worthwhile.

“The projects and stories that have already been shared as part of the First World War Centenary have been an inspiration,” he explained

“It’s so important that we remember the impact of this war one hundred years on. “There is still time to apply for National Lottery money and I would urge anyone in East Antrim with an idea for their own project to get in touch with the Heritage Lottery Fund.”

The funding was announced at a function at the House of Commons on July 8.

It follows on from other similar funding initiatives.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has already contributed over £70 million to help fund World War One projects in communities across the United Kingdom.
