Magical miniature doors popped up in primary schools across Lurgan and Craigavon inspiring young children to write a book.
Capturing their imaginations, the pupils launched into writing their magical door stories and poems.
The project has been taking place with a number of local schools in partnership with St Ronan’s College.
The aim was to create a forum where everyone could work together to make the transition from Primary to Post Primary as smooth and stress free as possible.
The Magic Door project was designed to further develop the writing and communication skills of all pupils and a book entitled ‘The Magical Door’ was published.
In March, miniature, magical doors mysteriously appeared in all the schools. The Digital Leaders from St Ronan’s released a ‘Breaking News’ video which helped inspire all the pupils to begin writing about the magical worlds that lie behind the miniature doors. Behind these magical doors anything was possible.
Stories from the schools have been collated and the book celebrates the hard work and talent of local children. From primary 1 through to year 8 contributed to the book, also available in digital format.
The book launch took place in The Jethro Centre last week. Dr Fionnuala Moore, vice principal of St Ronan’s College spoke about how the project had caused great excitement and enthusiasm. She congratulated pupils on the standard and quality of the writing.
The launch was led by three pupils from St Ronan’s who introduced pupils from each of the primary schools who read stories and poems. A group of the children from three of the schools performed a short play entitled: Come with us Through the Magic Door.
Mrs Caitriona McAtarsney, principal of St Mary’s Primary School, Derrymore, who spoke on behalf of the primary principals, said she was delighted with the enthusiasm and involvement of so many across all the schools.
She said it was a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to express themselves and unleash their creativity. She paid tribute to all who had contributed in any way to the successful publication and launch of The Magical Door book.
