Councillor’s flooding concern

A Portadown councillor has claimed flooding could have been a lot worse in the town, if not for the efforts of the Department for Infrastructure.

Heavy rainfall on Monday evening brought flash floods to several areas of Portadown - including the Thomas Street/Annagh area and the Garvaghy Road.

Drivers in Churchill Park and Woodside Green had to take extra care as flooding made conditions tricky.

Speaking about the flooding Councillor Paul Duffy said things could have been worse but for the Department for Infrastructure’s (DfI) efforts.

“The recent flash flooding caused difficulties for a lot of drivers and some residents in and around Portadown,” said Cllr Duffy.

“Heavy rain and hail came down in the space of 15 minutes, causing some areas to flood as some drains struggled to cope.

“Luckily, a lot of the storm drains in the area have been cleaned out over the last few weeks making it easier for the flood water to get away. I want to thank DfI roads for this.”
