Upper Bann MLA Jonathan Buckley called for relief to be given to businesses that have recently been issued with water and sewerage charges for the financial year of 2021/22.

The Upper Bann MLA said: “This is extremely unfair given the circumstances beyond the control of any business, and consideration must now be made for periods in which proprietors have been closed to the public and/or operations have been ceased due to restrictions.

“To date the only form of relief in relation to water rates has been a slight deferral of planned increases to non-domestic charges, which ended in October 2020,” said Mr Buckley who has written to the Minister of Infrastructure; Nicola Mallon and the Chief Executive of NI Water; Sara Venning requesting immediate consideration for relief/rebate to businesses issued costly bills.
