Eye of Sauron watches over Tyrone in weird weather phenomenon

A cloud formation making it appear as if the Eye of Sauron was watching over Tyrone on Tuesday was part of a larger formation of colorful nacreous clouds.

Pictures and videos taking by amateur photographers and weather watchers on Tuesday morning featured a colorful eye-shape peeking through the clouds over Cookstown that resembled the evil Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings.

Nacreous clouds, also known as mother of pearl clouds or polar stratospheric clouds, require frigid conditions in the lower stratosphere, higher than where most clouds sit, and are most commonly seen at high latitude locations such as Scandinavia, Iceland, Alaska and Northern Canada.
