More than £1 million of funding is available through the firmus energy ‘home comfort’ grant initiative which was launched by Lord Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby.
The scheme, which is run in association with the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme(NISEP), means that around 400 qualifying households across Northern Ireland, including those in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon, can secure a cash-back grant of up to £1,800 when they install a natural gas heating system. There are also approximately 75 ‘Free Heat’ grants available which means that the full cost of the installation will be covered and the recipient will not need to pay a penny.
Michelle Trainor, from firmus energy, comments: “We know that many families and individuals are under financial pressure and we are delighted to be able to offer a range of grants and cashback schemes.
“There are a variety of grants available to owner occupiers and private renting tenants converting their homes from various fuel sources, including coal, tanked gas and Economy7 or even without an existing heating system.
Mr Causby said, “Residents in the area are able to take advantage of this grant to convert to natural gas, which is a cleaner source of energy than traditional fossil fuels.
