Fractured skull for Dungannon schoolboy knocked down by a bus

The third year student at St Patrick’s Academy, who was reportedly released from hospital last Monday, was knocked down on the Killymeal Road the previous Friday afternoon.

The incident, which police say took place shortly before 3.50pm, is believed to have occurred at the carpark entrance to Dungannon Leisure Centre.

But one source has said that camera footage taken from the bus showed that the vehicle was travelling at a suitable speed for the area.

It is not known whether the boy ran into the road in front of the vehicle.

A spokesperson for the PSNI told the Mail: “A teenage pedestrian had been knocked down on the Killymeal Road, Dungannon, by a bus on June 20th, shortly before 3.50pm.

They added: “It is not thought the teenager’s injuries were serious.”

And said: “Enquiries are continuing in relation to the road traffic incident.”

The youngster, who is from Dungannon town, was taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital for treatment.

Commenting on the incident, a Translink spokesperson said: “A pupil from St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon was involved in an incident with an Ulsterbus 80H vehicle.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the pupil was taken to Craigavon Hospital.”

The driver was also accessed at the scene by ambulance staff, according to Translink, and “deemed to be uninjured”.

The company told the TIMES they intend to carry out “a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident”.

Although the school were offered the opportunity to comment on the incident, they had not come back to the TIMES at the time this went to print.
