Gaelectric to print 12,000 booklets for Larne area

About 160 people attended the latest round of public consultation events held by Gaelectric Energy Storage (GES) regarding its plans for a new power station on the outskirts of Larne.

The Irish-based company – which hopes to create a £300m compressed air energy facility at Carnduff – held its fourth round of consultations last week, with events at Islandmagee Boat club, Glynn Village Hall and Larne Town Hall.

Members of the public had the opportunity to speak directly to Gaelectric officials, including chief executive Brendan McGrath, and ask searching questions about various aspects of the project.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We were delighted with the number of people who attended our consultation events in Larne, Glynn and Islandmagee.

“We now intend to produce a new booklet detailing the latest information project, which will be distributed to over 12,000 people in the Larne area.

“A fifth round of public consultation events is also planned for May, which will contain much more detailed information about the scheme.”

Gaelectric hopes to submit its planning application for the project later this year.
