Gerry Adams could meet Prince Charles but Sinn Fein

A Magherafelt DUP councillor has slammed Sinn Féin for refusing to support sending a letter congratulating Prince William and Kate Middleton on the birth of Princess Charlotte.

Councillor Paul McLean claimed the decision showed the hypocrisy of Sinn Féin whose leader Gerry Adams was willing to meet Prince Charles.

“Once again as Unionists in Mid Ulster we’ve experienced the blatant sectarian hatred of SF/IRA against our British Monarch in that they couldn’t even support a simple congratulations and best wishes being sent to Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter,” he said following Thursday night’s council meeting.

“Yet, on the other hand, Gerry Adams was willing to meet with Prince Charles on his recent visit to the south of Ireland.

“However we shouldn’t be overly surprised at the hypocrisy of SF/IRA bearing in mind while one part of SF/IRA was meeting and greeting the British Monarch the other part was protesting against them. Very much like SF/IRA’s previous position in which Danny Morrison stated ‘an armalite in one hand and the ballot box in the other’”.
