Gillespie jumps ship for top DCC job

LONDONDERRY Port has lost its chief financial officer Stephen Gillespie to Derry City Council, which has appointed him to its senior management team.

Mr Gillespie joins Derry City Council as a Strategic Director having held a senior role at Londonderry Port.

Town Clerk Sharon O’Connor said: “Mr Gillespie brings a valuable commercial and strategic experience to the existing Council team whilst having a good understanding of the public sector through his present role.

“He is joining Derry City Council at a very exciting time for the city and will take a leading role in the implementation and delivery of key strategies in tourism, leisure and cultural development in keeping with the City’s One Plan, the Council’s Corporate Plan and the City of Culture 2013 events programme.

“Stephen will work as part of the Council team in delivering real and positive change for the city and help us bring to fruition a wide range of new and positive changes that will benefit all communities in the Derry City Council area and beyond.”

A qualified Accountant and a graduate of the University of Ulster, Mr Gillespie also holds an Msc in Corporate Leadership and is a Chartered Director.

Mr Gillespie, expressing delight at his appointment, said he is looking forward to taking up the position and working with all concerned for the benefit of the city. It is hoped that Mr Gillespie will take up the position in early spring.
