Stephen McAvoy (26), Kilmaine Street, Lurgan, was fined £350 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for the offence.

The court heard that on January 1 this year at 12.15am a police foot patrol in William Street, Lurgan saw the defendant come out of a nightclub.

He was shouting, was heavily intoxicated and his jeans were undone.

McAvoy was asked to do them up but became abusive towards police. He was asked to calm down but continued to be abusive and use expletives.

The defendant was given the opportunity to walk away but again swore at police and was arrested for disorderly behaviour.

A solicitor representing McAvoy said he accepted this was a poor standard of behaviour. He explained that his client had far too much alcohol taken.

District Judge, Peter King, said the defendant had eight previous convictions, three of them for disorderly behaviour.
