Glenarm hoping for blooming great success

Glenarm is one of only two UK villages hoping to achieve recognition in a major international floral display competition.

The Communities in Bloom (CIB) judges jetted in from Canada to see at first hand the work undertaken by the group of dedicated volunteer horticulturists in the village.

The judges toured Glenarmon Friday, before moving on to Ahogill on Saturday and then flying out to the Czech Republic on Sunday for their next session of floral assessment.

Prior to the weekend’s judging session, Glenarm In Bloom volunteers were special guests at mayoral reception, where they had a chance to formally meet the two judges from the international CIB competition, which is based in Quebec.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Billy Ashe said: “Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on enhancing green spaces.

“Mid and East Antrim Borough will benefit from the programme through community tourism initiatives, business opportunities for the entire community, and other related projects.”
