Jamie Williams had his hair shaved this week at Northgate Barbers in Carrick in a bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 12-year-old, who is a also a member of Carrickfergus JuJitsu Club, set an initial target of £250 - enough to provide two days of support from a Macmillan nurse.

But in just a short space of time, Jamie’s online fundraising page has already raised £285 and counting, with more coming in via cash donations.

Jamie was inspired to take part in Brave the Shave after hearing about the campaign on the radio, according to his father, Phil.

“We had to ask for permission from the school that he was allowed have his hair shaved, as it’s against the school’s policy on hairstyles. Because this was for charity though they gave it their support,” Phil added.

“Jamie has taken part in fundraising for charities before at school, but this is the first time he’s done something like this on his own. It’s something I encouraged him to do, not only to support Macmillan but also because I thought it would be a great boost to his confidence to set a goal and achieve it.”
