Halloween events will take centre stage at Ballycarry Community Centre this evening (Friday).

The event is being organised by a team led by Community Association secretary Carla McKeaveney.

A bonfire will be lit on the Fairhill at 7.30pm while at 8pm there will be a special Halloween storytelling event in the community centre. Minumum donation for storytelling and complimentary refreshments will be £3.

Scary tales and ghostly goings on of a local nature will take centre stage at the storytelling, which is in the hands of Valerie Beattie and Dr David Hume.

“There will be stories of the White Lady, the Bellahill Banshee and others, so wrap up well to avoid the chills,” said Mrs Beattie.

Everyone is welcome along and the organisers are encouraging anyone with a story to tell to have a go during the evening.

The event is one of a number at the centre over the next few weeks.

On Friday, November 6, the annual Festival of Remembrance will take place, with a wreath laying ceremony at the village war memorial at 7pm.

That will be followed by the festival in the Community Centre at 7.45pm when the artists will include Magheramorne Silver Band and Larne Choral Society.

On November 14 a coffee morning is taking place for community funds, and on November 17 there will be a historical talk on President Andrew Jackson and the Battle of New Orleans by academic Dr John McCavitt.

Jackson’s ancestors were from Ballyhill townland outside the village so there will be considerable interest in what Dr McCavitt has to say about the famous American, who defeated the British forces at New Orleans in 1815.
