Primary school children from the Drumellan and wider Craigavon area have been tucking into a healthy morning meal thanks to a new breakfast club.

The pre-school club has been set up by Drumellan Community Association and is based at the Children and Young People’s Centre,

It opens at 7.30am Monday to Friday and has been funded by the Housing Executive.

The breakfast club aims to help local people who start work early and need support with getting their children to school. It is already proving a valuable addition to the community with 12 children availing of it.

Michelle McCrink, childcare team leader at Drumellan Community Association, said, “Our club currently employs two people and a number of volunteers. As the service expands we hope to provide further volunteering opportunities.”

Denise McNally, Housing Executive area manager, said the club is “the first step to what we hope will prove a successful social enterprise providing a necessary service, employment and volunteering opportunities”.
