The Portadown’s Person To be Proud Of was launched by the paper to recognise the huge contribution made by a great many people from this town.
The winner will take a fantastic prize. All four shopping centres, Asda, Magowan West, The Meadows and High Street Mall, will be donating shopping vouchers to our winner, totalling over £400.
Do you know someone who helps to make Portadown special? Is there an individual, a volunteer, local personality or someone else who deserves recognition for their achievements or for the community spirit they have shown?
If you do, we want you to contact us as we draw up our shortlist for the fourth annual award.
Last year’s competition was won by Special Olympics star Rosalind Connolly with Joan Ferguson and Dr Gilbert Carson the previous two winners.
Portadown Times editor Alistair Bushe said, “There are many people from Portadown who, over the years, have made this town very proud of what they have achieved. During 2014 this tradition was continued by a number of people.
“With your help we are drawing up a shortlist of finalists. You will have your say on the winner when the list is published next month.”
The first step is for readers to nominate people for the award. You can email your nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org or text the name of your nomination to 84555, starting the message with PTTEXT and then a space. You can also ring us on 028 38 395560 or write to us at Portadown Person to be Proud of, Portadown Times, 2 Esky Drive, Portadown, BT63 5YY. You can also nominate via our facebook page or at Twitter at @portadowntimes1.
The closing date is Monday, February 9 at 1pm. The shortlist will be revealed in the Portadown Times on February 13 when readers can vote for their winner.
“Our Portadown’s Person To Be Proud Of award is not just about recognising those worthy individuals, it’s about recognising people who work hard on the ground to improve life in their communities.
