Kilfennan Minister to become Moderator

KILFENNAN Minister, Rev Dr Rob Craig, is to be the next moderator of the Presbyterian Church.

Currently serving as Minister at Kilfennan Presbyterian Church, Dr Craig was nominated by 17 out of the 19 Presbyteries and he will take over the post of Moderator on June 3, taking over from Dr Roy Patton, who will serve as Moderator until that time.

Speaking on radio this morning Rev Dr Craig said he was “deeply humbled and honoured to be elected moderator”.

His appointment as Moderator means Rev Dr Craig will sit as chairman for the 2013 General Assembly when it meets in Londonderry this year, the decision having been made to host the General Assembly here to mark it’s status as the UK City of Culture.

It has been more than two decades since the Assembly has met out of Belfast and it was 1933 when it last met in the city.

Rev Dr Craig is the first Presbyterian Minister to be successfully nominated as Moderator since the 1970s.

See next week’s Londonderry Sentinel on February 13 for further reports and reaction to Rev Dr Craig’s nomination.
