Larne Civil Servant wins award for volunteer work

Local man Alexander Paterson from HM Passport Office was presented with a Certificate of Achievement for his exceptional commitment to The Charity for Civil Servants over the past six years.

The organisation helps people who work or who have worked in the Civil Service and their families by offering information, practical support and advice during their working lives and in retirement. In 2013 over 10,000 people in need were supported with advice, referrals or financial assistance.

The awards were presented by Permanent Secretary at The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Chair of the Charity Sue 
Owen.

The Charity for Civil Servants relies on the support of current or former civil servants through volunteering, fundraising or donating to carry out its work. There are currently over 750 current and former civil servants across the UK who volunteer on behalf of the Charity.

Chief Executive of the Charity Merrick Willis said: “We’ve received some exceptional nominations for our Volunteer Awards this year.

“For the people we help, this charity can be a life line and without the efforts of our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to support them.

“These awards are very well deserved.”
