Larne jobless rate down by a fifth

Larne’s jobless total has decreased by almost one fifth in the past 12 months.

According to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, there are 160 fewer claimants in the borough since October 2013. This represents a decrease of almost 19 per cent.

The latest statistics indicate a total of 689 claimants locally; 482 male and 207 female. The overall number of claimants has decreased by seven since last month.

In terms of Northern Ireland as a whole, the October claimant count decreased by 100 from the previous month and now stands at 52,100. Recent figures indicate that there has been a fall of 8,700 in the claimant count over the most recent 12 months.

This is the 22nd consecutive month in which there has been a fall in this measure of unemployment (12,700 over the period).

There were 1,283 proposed redundancies notified in the period mid October to mid November, with 169 confirmed redundancies in October.
