Launch of new Glengormley support group for children’s hospice

Friends of Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice will raise much needed funds for 
the charity and raise awareness of the facility in the borough.

In attendance at the launch in the Thunderdome restaurant was Newtownabbey mayor Alderman Thomas Hogg and NICH trustees Councillor Billy Webb and Rodney McCurley.

Group member Paul Markey said: “It’s great to be in a position to officially launch our new friends’ group and we would welcome anyone who would be interested in joining us or offering help in any way.

“Like so many local people, we are very proud of the children’s hospice. It is on our doorstep and deserves all the support, we and others across Northern Ireland, can give. We also hope to add to the wonderful work of the Monkstown Children’s Support Group and help in any way we can to raise money for the life-limited 
children, young people and their families who use the specialised services of the hospice.”

NICH trustee Councillor Billy Webb thanked the group saying: “On behalf of everyone at Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, I am delighted to welcome new friends to our network of support groups.

“The vital work, both at hospice and in the homes of our life-limited children, could not continue without the income generated by our support groups. They really are the life blood of our charity and I wish Paul and his colleagues every success.

“Last year, we cared for 293 life-limited children living across Northern Ireland. It is thanks to the generosity and support of the people of Northern Ireland that we are able to do this”.

Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice provides respite and end of life care for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Practical, emotional and bereavement support is also provided for the whole family. Care is provided at the children’s hospice buildings in Newtownabbey and Killadeas and also in local communities across Northern Ireland.
