Liam honoured withambassadorial role

Accompanied by his wife Gillian, Liam - the well-known Ballymoney sports personality and former Coleraine footballer, was introduced to a group of Samaritan volunteers in the presence of Deputy Mayor of Ballymoney Council, Cecil Cousley, and Moyle Chair Sandra Hunter, by Tommy McDonald, chair of the local branch of Samaritans.

Cllr Evelyn Robinson, Mayor of Ballymoney and Cathal McLaughlin, Mayor of Limavady both sent apologies due to other commitments but both expressed their congratulations and good wishes to Liam and Samaritans and wished both well as they continue their work in the local communities.

Tommy expressed the delight of the Samaritan Branch at the willing acceptance of the position by Liam and said everyone looked forward to the undoubted benefit they would derive from a high profile local personality working alongside the members of the organisation in promoting the objectives of the Samaritan movement.

The Coleraine and District Branch have dedicated volunteers from Ballymoney, Coleraine, Moyle and Limavady and appreciate the wholehearted support received from these areas.

Alderman Cousley and Sandra Hunter joined in wishing the Samaritans continued success in their valuable and tireless work and congratulated their new ambassador and wished him well in his new role.

In reply, Liam remarked: “I am indeed humbled and very honoured to have been invited to act as an Ambassador for Samaritans.

“Having initially been invited as a guest to a couple of high profile Samaritan initative launches it soon became obvious to me just how important a role these volunteers carry out in society.

“The call I received asking me to become an ambassador took little time for me to respond with the answer, yes. I will now endeavour to promote Samaritans and their principles to the very best of my ability.”
