More than 300 external defibrillators will be installed in SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVO branded stores across Northern Ireland throughout 2016, thanks to a campaign launched by Henderson Group.
The global company will install AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) outside 28 stores in County Armagh, alone, and it is hoped that the facilities will be available for the public throughout 2016. Community and store fundraising at each of the outlets involved will fund the devices, aiming for £1,500 to purchase the product, its temperature controlled cabinet and installation.
With around 1,400 cardiac arrests occurring each year in NI outside of hospitals, it is vital that bystanders perform CPR and make use of an AED device if readily available. Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart stops beating; it has been proven that early CPR and defibrillator shock are vital to a person’s chances of surviving a cardiac arrest. This will be Northern Ireland’s largest external network of lifesaving devices.
