Lisburn jobless total on the rise

THE latest figures have shown that unemployment in Lisburn has begun to rise.

There had been a slight reduction in unemployment levels in recent months. However, the latest statistics released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment have shown that unemployment in the city has risen by 4.5% over the last month.

There are currently 3,074 people claiming unemployment benefit in Lisburn, a rise of 133 over the month. Over the past year unemployment in the city has risen by 8.3%, with 235 more people claiming benefits than the same period last year.

In Northern Ireland as a whole unemployment has risen by 3.1% this month and by just over 10% during the year. There are currently 57,045 people claiming unemployment benefit in Northern Ireland.
