Lottery boost for the Laganview Enterprise Centre

LAGANVIEW Enterprise Centre in Old Warren has been given a very welcome financial boost by the Big Lottery Fund.

The local centre secured £9267 from the Big Lottery Fund under the Energy Efficient Venues Grant. LaganView is one of 14 organisations across Northern Ireland that was successful in the application based funding process.

Joanne Casey, Centre Manager said: “This is a great achievement for LaganView and staff and directors are delighted that this money has been secured to introduce a more efficient heating system in one of the industrial workshops as well as allowing for the completion of a full energy audit with the hope of introducing more energy efficient systems within the centre.”

The money granted is being used to introduce an energy efficient heating system within workshop unit 3, which is currently occupied by Lisburn PSP Streets Ahead youth project. The money will also allow for the workshop to be efficiently insulated.

Currently this workshop is leased by Lisburn PSP Streets Ahead project but unfortunately there is little work and limited activities being carried out due to the lack of heat and insulation, particularly as young people are involved with the project.

It is hoped that with the money which has now been granted to carry out these necessary works that the youth project will be able to use this unit to its full potential. Work is currently being undertaken by a local social economy construction training company Lisburn Community Self Build with the hope of it being completed towards the end of the year.

LaganView has been open for four years and is now experiencing full occupancy with regards to its workspace. Current tenants include The Welcome House - an ethnic minority project, The Resurgam Community Development Trust, South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust, Lisburn PSP Streets Ahead Youth Project, Lisburn Community Self Build, Colin Sure Start, Day Today and Barkingham Palace - a dog grooming parlour.
