Heather Boyd a spokesperson from The Link, told the MAIL the types of food that their food bank needs.

“Foods really that are going to keep, cereals, pasta, tinned foods and even saying it’s coming to Christmas wee treats for children, cause they really don’t have anything like that.

“Biscuits... and things that will keep for a wee while. Diluting orange, that type of thing. So at least when they open a cupboard or a fridge, they have something.”

Based beside the cinema in Maghera, in the Link Community Building, there is “some of us is here everyday from about 2pm to about 9 most nights.”

“We would be really, really grateful for it,” (help), says Heather.

The Link helps people from all over, including Draperstown, Bellaghy, Ballymena and further afield.

Heather spoke of the support that they get locally; they put up an appeal through Facebook and Heather describes the response as ‘amazing’.

St John’s Church, Swatragh, St Vincent de Paul and the Church of Ireland, Tobermore have made appeals for them and have collected donations.

The food from one of these lifts, “went in the first two weeks of us bringing it here.”

Heather encourages, “...anybody who is in need to contact me and we will get them food took out, we don’t ask anybody to walk into the building and ask for food.
