Sean Murray (34) of Union Road, also admitted having no driving licence when he was stopped by the police at Castledawson Road on July 1 this year.

Murray was released on bail of £300, pending an appeal.

Pleading for leniency, defence solicitor Donal Heron stressed there had been nothing in the manner of driving by the defendant which had attracted police attention.

He claimed the reason Murray was driving was to “keep harmony” with his partner with whom he had a child.

District Judge Alan White remarked that the defendant was already in breach of suspended sentences.

He said it was his practice to put into action suspended sentences.
