A MAN who allegedly assaulted his ex-partner and breached a court order by contacting her, has been refused bail.

Graham William Robinson, of Foyle Road, Newbuildings faces a total of six charges relating to incidents between April 30 and July 19, last.

They also include charges of assaulting and resisting police.

An investigating officer told Londonderry Magistrate’s Court he believed he could connect the 22-year-old to the charges before the court.

Opposing a bail application, the officer said Robinson was likely to reoffend and the current alleged offences were committed while he was on bail for other matters which he failed to turn up to court for.

He also told the court that Robinson was 'intent' on making contact with the injured party, in spite of a non-molestation order being in place.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said the 22-year-old's life had “taken a turn for the worst” in the last year and he “doesn't have his difficulties to seek”.

He urged the court to release Robinson on bail with the “most stringent conditions.”

Refusing bail, District Judge Neil Rafferty said: “The reality is he is starting to accrue a criminal record and is likely to reoffend. I don't believe he will abide by any conditions I put in place.”

Robinson was remanded in custody to appear in court again via videolink on August 12.
